Haiku from Baby Dinosaurs by Man of no rank

Man of no rank is centred on two Jamaican musician/producers, whose love and appreciation for a wide-ranging variety of genres, styles and traditions is reflected in the deeply eclectic sounds they produce together.
The two, John Fenton and Omar Francis, are well known members of the Kingston music scene, in a variety of capacities: including John's gig as musical director for the well regarded Juss Buss acoustic web series; while Omar is involved with many different projects, one of which is the touring reggae band Rootz Underground. Their musical tastes tend to meet in a big groove laden sweet spot incorporating Fenton's lo-fi hip hop and electronica leanings and Francis's jazz-funk and art rock inclinations. Everything Man of no rank does, nevertheless, is based on a profound Jamaican-ness, rooted in West African polyrhythmic sensibilities and, above all a sense of possibility and openness.
All of which is to say that Man of no rank is not your typical Jamaican band. Their first project, the EP Baby Dinosaurs, is six widely and sometimes wildly variant pieces of music, from the meditative and laid back "Haiku Song" to the Reggae-rock of "Paradise Lost" by way of the Art-punk "Rainbow door". The funky title track, likewise, serves as a delicious contrast to the jazzy African influenced "History of the Universe" and the shimmery art-pop of "The light Fantastic". It is, it's fairly safe to say, an interesting ride.
