eightysixfortyfive (EP) by M4TR
eightsixfortyfive was M4TR’s first transmission—a raw, urgent snapshot of a world unraveling in real time. Written between 2015 and 2017, these six songs were fueled by frustration, disillusionment, and a restless energy that demanded to be recorded. They began as home demos in my studio, rough but fully formed, before being taken into Innovation Station Studios, where they were sharpened and polished with layered synths, guitars, and rhythmic intensity. It was the first real step toward defining the M4TR sound.
Never Act Your Age opened with a battle cry against stagnation—an anthem for reinvention and survival. Reign of Fire came to life outside Trump Tower in November 2017, as protests raged and the media machine turned crisis into spectacle. Angry White Man was written in the wake of Charlottesville, a moment that proved history wasn’t done repeating itself. The song’s snarling, RATM-fueled rage captured the boiling point of a country still reckoning with its past.
The second half of the EP turned its focus to hypocrisy and the failure of institutions. Trolls dissected the internet’s transformation into a toxic, truth-decaying battleground, where bad-faith arguments and outrage ruled. Bring Back Hippy Jesus questioned how faith had been twisted into a tool of control rather than a force of peace and rebellion. We Better Take It from Here closed with an unflinching generational reckoning—watching septuagenarians cling to power while the future stood waiting in the wings. The song still lingers, still waits for that moment of transition that never seems to come.
Years later, listening to eightsixfortyfive in 2025, it’s unsettling how familiar it all feels. The same battles, the same disillusionment, the same cycle looping back again. These weren’t just the first M4TR songs—they were an early prophecy. One that, in too many ways, still holds true.
