Throb & Din by M25S05LF

This album is an(other) experimental exploration of rhythm (throb) & sound (din); the result of listening to Nordic Folk music for 23 years; Captain Beefheart, GOAT, and Yowie for a few years.

The mouth fiddle (as I like to call it) gets a bad rap as being just a silly sound effect commonly used in cartoons. HOWEVER, there are many cultures around the world which use various iterations of the mouth fiddle. I draw my inspiration from the traditions of Norway and Sweden. I have found their tunes to be the most melodic, rhythmic, technically difficult, and pleasing to the ear.

Tracks 01-06:
Mouth fiddles (Jew’s harp/jaw harp/mouth harp) of six sizes and pitches, drums & other objects chopped into samples and played on the Roland SPD-SX. No stolen sounds, no conventional overdubs, no multiple takes—all impromptu; no sequencing, no algorithms; no pre- or post- digital effects.

BONUS track: Mouth fiddle & drums processed through guitar effects pedals: Red Panda Particle (loop, stutter), MASF Possessed (stutter/glitch). Made 14 December 2020.
