LYNN LAVNER … something different [

Lynn Lavner has been playing the piano and writing songs since she was seven years old. Jewish people from Brooklyn are expected to do this, and it is preferred that they be self-taught and unable to read music. Lynn spent her formative years in the public schools, being farmed out by teachers to play the piano for all the auditorium programs. Consequently, she didn’t learn anything. The children who learned something have no jobs now.

Lynn performs several nights each week at Blue Skies, a Greenwich Village supper club. Her cabaret act, “An Evening With Lynn Lavner – is Plenty” has been performed to great acclaim at the Duplex and at Don’t Tell Mama and provides most of the songs on this album. Her score for the musical “Ladies Don’t Spit and Holler” is also available on records and tapes.
