Lyrics
take me along your interstate,
the road of your grand vision
bring me through your golden gate
what dreams do you have hidden?
You’re the one with the burnin’ ambition
A healthy cause and the keys in the ignition
Streets are meant to be repaved,
But we’re still dancing in them
Maybe the judge is on crusade
While the jury’s stuck in session
Maybe our beds are always kept well-made
‘Cause we’re never in them
All this time, we’ve been burning ambition
The engine fires, but gets lost in transmission
Everything all in its place, and yet
There’s something missing
Celestials are all at play
While we’re trying to make a living
History will be replayed
But will we learn its lesson?
I’m the one with a burnin’ desire
To hitch a ride, become your love for hire
If you see me on my knees tonight
You know I’m only wishing
Youre the one with the burnin’ ambition
A healthy cause and the keys in the ignition
Debts are meant to be repaid,
But you might as well forgive them
Youre the one with the burnin’ ambition
A healthy cause and the keys in the ignition
Streets are meant to be repaved,
But we’re still dancing in them
Credits
I’ve worked about a hundred odd jobs in my life and times as a starving musician; the Calm Poseur waiting for his big break… (“If you see me on my knees tonight, you know I’m only wishing…”) But I feel most like myself serving my muse, my champion, my lover. So this song is a little technicolor shrine in her honor: some handwritten lyrics digesting life-in-the-fast lane caricatures over a progression that churns with rocknroll fossil fuel, as guitars engage in a synchronized swimming exercise that makes us yearn to play like the dolphins in the bay. My muse keeps her creative fire burning and doesn’t let the small-minded honks or heavy corporate trucks on the Interstate steer her away from her vision. She keeps humming, and this is a tune to sustain that spirit. “Streets are meant to be repaved, but we’re still dancing in them.”
