There’s no place left to hide, just rocks upon the ridge
That river’s mighty wide and too far from the bridge
While they all are prosecuting my glorious career
I could go down shooting and end it all right here

And yet I can hear it coming rumbling through the rain
Before I wasn’t sure, but here it comes again
It’s getting pretty bright in the darkness of the night
That must be the headlight of the oncoming train

Now what there is to show for a life spent on the run
A few footprints in the snow when the day is done
I tried to stake my claim, but how can you prepare?
There is no one left to blame when you lose at solitaire

Arriving right on time, it’s easy to explain
It’s a little habit I’ve been trying to maintain
Wish I may, wish I might, make it through one more night
That must be the headlight of the oncoming train

The tea leaves have been read, gazed in the crystal ball
And hanging by a thread, I’m heading for a fall
The treasure is still buried under rocks and locks and chains
At the bottom of the canyon, you’ll find my remains

Once I dined on caviar, once I drank champagne
So now please understand, why it rubs against the grain
When it comes, I must ignite, my last stick of dynamite
