Landnamabok by lomov | Dub House

The "Landnamabok" is a book of the land takeover of the first settlers in Iceland in the 9th century. The surviving book is from the 11th century and inspired me, who has never been to Iceland, to create an imaginary audio saga. A saga of heroic actors who resisted the adversities of nature and began to colonise the country. After they had mastered the crossing, each met different circumstances and had to overcome different challenges. The album also describes the other side of the wild, warlike Vikings, who penetrated America in search of a rural land. At the same time, it is an attempt to describe the relationship between man and nature and how they have shaped each other.

I had opportunity for the realisation of the compositions when I stayed as a guest for a week with a friend near Cologne, Germany, in a romantic little valley. From there also come the bird voices of the track “fuglaheimili”. Naturally, the genre for such a saga was ambient, or the more rhythmic dubambient. Genres are boxes that are supposed to make thinking easier, but they prevent us from discovering new things in the spaces between. Instead, go on voyages of discovery like the Vikings and discover your own land.
