tossing and turning for weeks
the faucet still drips and it leaks
i’m falling asleep to the sound of the creaks
& the blink of the smoke alarm
glancing out my bedroom door
a jam lid is circling the floor
i’m frozen in place and all of time & space
has been brought to a wicked crawl
fumbling up for the light
tumultuous bumps in the night
are rattling the walls & there’s sounds in the hall
i can’t seem to make out just right

the headlights peer in as all traffic veers into a dimly lit restaurant
heartbeat is stuttering quick
the ominous hum of the fridge
