Rise & Fall by LIONLION
Rise & Fall builds up like a gathering thunderstorm. Driven by the grand piano, waves of sound from electronic effects and a classical orchestra pile up to collapse again at the peak of their beauty. Thematically, the band sing about their own ups and downs on the EP and get the musical turn towards hope at the right moment: that it is worthwhile going the common way despite all odds (Mary Lane), to dare new perspectives (Oceans Rise) and to hold on to good things (Another Go) - with the focus on reconciliation (Language).
With the reprise of Another Go, the band rounds off the EP in an orchestral re-interpretation of the opener. In wave movements, the themes of the previous tracks are presented musically, as if in an endless loop: From melancholy to joy, through ups and downs, from rise to fall. And finally with the conciliatory realisation that although we have no influence on these amplitudes in life, it would only be half as exciting without them.
