Ophiuchus (2024) is the 2nd self produced mixtape by Australian Hip-Hop artist Lil Jul. Also his 5th mixtape overall.

This album covers a variety of genres including hardcore hip-hop, experimental pop, asian pop, ambient music, instrumentals, acapella, sped-up tracks and lo-fi.

This is the first mixtape where the approach of vocal freestyling takes place as well as an emergence towards ambience and lo-fi singing. Themes such as hip-hop dominance is laced with songs of sorrow, loss and love.

In astrology, Ophiuchus (also known as the serpent handler) is sometimes debated and theorized as the 13th star sign of the Zodiac. An alternate world and view of the structure of things.

It's symbolism reflects on the desire for a better world where perhaps one's circumstances could be more different, an alternate reality, as well as the empowering knowledge that there is another side of us we can switch in to if we just alter world view. 🐍 This theme is reflected vividly with the concept of genre blending and tonal switches throughout the 21-Track project.

Lil Jul is an Australian hip hop artist, based in Ballarat - VIC.

Known for his vicious rhymes and emotive imagery in lyrics, Julien started off as a poet in school and slowly worked his way up as a lyricist, singer-songwriter and producer.
