Ritmo Lento by Leatherette
Leatherette have announced the release of their third album 'Ritmo Lento' on 28th November via Bronson Recordings.
'Lovers Drifters Foreigners', the first single taken from the new album, begins as a haunted nightmare, then launches into a frenetic electrical stride before opening into atmospheric post-jazz suspensions. Between pub and paradise, between funeral march and choral liberation, it is a hymn to the exhilaration of not knowing where you're going. A song that unpredictably blends punk viscerality and cosmic visions. If it sounds absurd, it makes perfect sense when you listen on headphones.
The band explains: "After years of touring, we chose to slow down and bring the music and songs back to the forefront, taking direct responsibility for the production as well, to build a soundscape all our own. With Lovers, Drifters, Foreigners, we wanted to capture the tension between chaos and stillness, a song that opens up, deforms, and recomposes itself, anticipating the ambiguous and situationist universe of 'Ritmo Lento'."
After an intense, captivating journey in which they established themselves as one of the most intriguing acts of the new Italian indie scene, playing festivals and touring Europe and the UK, and releasing critically acclaimed albums 'Fiesta' (2022) and 'Small Talk' (2024), Leatherette return with a record born from the need to slow down, switch off the autopilot, and rediscover the essence of songs without worrying about fitting them into a genre.
'Ritmo Lento' is a record of atmospheres that perfectly balances catchy melodies, sing-along choruses, fuzzy cavalcades, and more reflective moments. The very title of the album, Ritmo Lento (“Slow Rhythm” in Italian), speaks of this dialectic: the constant tension between frenzy and pause, neurosis and breath, the desire to accelerate and the need to stop. The vinyl is divided into two distinct sides: six impetuous and catchy tracks and six denser, more meditative ones, like an inner diary of contrasts.
