These 7 tracks of instrumental electronic music were made predominantly with the Yamaha Tenori-on, a small, square device which has the ability to play samples or its own internal sounds, and which is based around a 16 x16 button matrix that works as a sequencer for time and pitch. I worked with real time DSP effects rather than trying to automate everything later on the computer screen (not my favourite activity!), and used my trusty 808 and 303 clones for drums and bass respectively when I needed a bit more than what the Tenori-on alone could provide. There are also a fair number of sounds made by slowing reel to reel tape down, and from filtered white noise.

I find the more I work 'live' in the studio, interacting with the machines instead of the software as I work, the more unexpected and fulfilling the music I can make becomes. Despite all the glitches, bugs and inconsistencies that annoyed me enough (perhaps regrettably, I think now) to make me sell the instrument after I had finished this album, the Tenori-on stands as a unique, idiosyncratic and strangely loveable machine.
