Lonely Shark from Good Stuff by Ladyshark

A large part of my obsession with sharks is because they've been so horribly treated through shark hunting and shark fin industries. These creatures are a vital part of the ecosystem and the sign of a healthy one. I grew up surfing in South East Queensland / Northern New South Wales and had quite a few encounters with sharks in the ocean as most people do. I treat every visit to the ocean I make as me invading their territory not the other way around. I have great respect for mother nature and sharks are just a beautiful part of her majesty. It makes me so upset and sad that creatures of the ocean are treated so poorly, particularly sharks due to the attacks that occur on humans. There are so many environmental atrocities that are occurring at the moment and this is affecting the ocean in different ways. For example, ocean deserts are occurring where there is no food for miles. Certain species of marine life are dying out. The current are changing due to global warming. This song was written about some of the changes that are occurring in the ocean due to humans being careless. I am a great advocate for Sea Shephard and other organizations that are trying to defend our ocean life and ultimately our planet.

I feel so alone in the ocean these days
My home has changed in so many ways

All I see is more sand in the big, wide blue
There’s so much sickness erupting in the sea

The starfish are all dying due to the new heat
Prozac for the gulf shrimp; now it’s death they greet

Oil spills, sewerage and trash are all causing destruction
I used to have so much more to eat
The ocean’s turning into a desert; the future looks bleak
I’ll keep swimming north to try and find the lost currents
It gets harder every year in the plastic torrents

The oceans are dying
We can’t keep surviving
If we don’t start changing
They’ll be no life remaining
