Gasoline Blue from Blang! by Lach

SONG NOTES: One night while walking with a girl down Ludlow Street we passed a blue neon sign for a piano store. She had recently dyed her hair a similar color and she exclaimed, "Hey, that's the same color as my hair, 'Gasoline Blue.'"
"Song title," I thought.
The title floated around my head until one day I ended up at The Museum of Modern Art and sat staring at Monet's "Waterlilies." Ever since "Coffee Black" I was intrigued with the use of abstract imagery within the context of an otherwise "normal" song. I let my thoughts wander through the beautiful colors of the paint¬ing and they returned as this song. A week later I was in concert and the blue-haired girl was there. I slyly dedicated the song to her "The girl with the Gasoline Blue hair." After the show she came up and coldly told me "It's called "Gaslight Blue."
Oh well, lost the girl and gained a song, a major theme of my life!

STUDIO NOTES: These tracks were done at night in studio B which has a fantastic view of the Empire State Building.lt was lit up pale blue, perfect for the song. We darkened the room except for a strand of small Christmas lights. The stu¬dio seemed to turn into a spaceship/cocktail lounge circling Manhattan as Leif played his solo. A perfect end to a busy session that saw us adding tracks of violin, cello, and harmonica throughout the day.
