When the school burnt down, and the factory closed
When all the lights went out, it was the final blow
And how are we supposed to move on?
How do we read the signs?
Yeah, it’s hard enough growing up, in these modern times

Hope deferred would make the best of us sick
I ask if you’re okay, you say “I am getting used to it”
Used to have visions of being something
But now you close your eyes and just see nothing
Just trying to get by, growing up in these modern times

You don’t see it now, but maybe down the road
This will all make sense, maybe then we’ll know
Why do things have to fall apart?
Under the weight of gravity
Now I’m blinded by the darkness
Open my eyes to see
