The promise of Summer was better than Summer was.
The newest and the greenest of leaves
Whisper how good it's going to be.
We lay up on the downs, stared into the bluest of springtime skies
And thought on the Summer to come and
The winter we'd overcome.

But when everything I've ever got
Get's put into the melting pot
And seen for what it is, I fear that it's not
Really and awful lot.

After the lights all went out my eyes stayed open.
Maybe I feared what I'd miss the moment I closed them.

So in the absence of a better plan,
