Mountains Ablaze by Kjersten Hallin
This song prayer came through during the PNW wildfires of 2017. I had driven to the coast and cried into the ocean, calling upon the whales to assist in the tamping of burning mountains.
I was inspired to record this song during the 2023 wildfire season, having also just head the news of the devastating Lahaina Fire on Maui.
The morning of the recording session, I spent a few hours packing lunches for firefighters who were busy wrangling blazes that had been sparked by a lightning storm a few days prior.
Featured on this track are the sounds of ritual fire, ocean waves recorded with my phone, and thunder and rain from that very storm (recorded by Matt Kellum, my audio hero!)
My daughter, Indigo deGaia, added her prayers to this collaboration by creating the visual art featured here.
May we continue to be in magical relations with the whales and water as we navigate this burning world, singing our prayers for balance and healing.
