Yes it is my temporary but very necessary change of direction - from one familiar type of music to another. Here is some ambient which I like quite a lot. I've pitched the volume very low for you - because I think that's the best way to hear it. And you might want to turn it down even further. I can imagine some of the laughter among my merry band of five followers at just QUITE how low you'd like to turn it. Oh yes, we do have fun here don't we, here in this quiet nice snug corner of Bandcamp. So much nicer than being out there with all those serious musicians and fans buying their factory-made made-in-China cassettes of something they'll never play.
I have astonishing news. That radio station that I mentioned yesterday - one of their DJs sent an email yesterday asking me to do a mix for his show. Oh how I love doing mixes. I haven't made one for at least ten years - way back in the days when I inadvertently stumbled onto one or two apparently "illegal" music download sites and little groups of us used to make mixes for each other which we'd pretend to hear and like but no one ever liked another person's mixes as much as their own. How could they ? It's like farts. It's nothing to be embarrassed about.
Of course the irony is that now, when someone has actually asked for a mix from me, I have none of my favourite music available. Joni Mitchell - gone. Early Peter Hammill - gone. Krautrock and early Industrial - all gone. I don't even think I've got any Prefab Sprout. Vanished. All because I watched a few too many episodes of The Minimalists on Youtube.
All I've got are lots of very recent albums which I've downloaded from Bandcamp but not heard yet. So I'm going to have to wing it a bit. Isn't it typical - the first mixtape that anyone has actually asked me to make - is going to be the first mixtape that I'll kinda wish no one ever actually hears. Ah I'm joking. It'll be great. At least it'll force me to listen to some other people's music for a change. That'll be good.
