yes we went to the Lymington Fish Festival, held in that small park next to where the Isle Of Wight ferries leave/arrive - the park with that pond where my brother and I used to sail our toy boats as children - then it was a wild pond full of life, now it is a wooden-sided "nature reserve" and as lifeless as a concrete sewer. But the festival was wonderful - small and delightful and everyone was friendly and even the live music wasn't terrible.
First we had big prawns - tasty - but the best bit was the bread for mopping up the juices. Then we had lobster and chips, which were so-so - lobsters are poncey things to choose to eat and I'm embarrassed admitting it here, no I'm not. Then ice cream. Then crab sandwiches - mainly shell.
Then we went to Milford On Sea and beyond, to Hurst Spit - there were about 7 groups of people, mainly couples - sitting along the whole length of Hurst Spit Beach. This was my first dip in ages. At the beach the water gets deep very suddenly - yr only a few paces out and already you're having to swim. Oh I loved it. I'm a weak swimmer, and also since losing so much weight I don't float so well, so it's all hard work.
The island and Needles and lighthouse were as clear as Virginia Woolf's lighthouse - oh I do wish the book was as good as we all always remember it - and the older you get and the more times you re-read it the closer it does get. My favourite ex is a brilliant swimmer and also she floats like polystyrene-not-in-a-punk-band and she was in for hours. It is just so lovely to so easily find such a quiet beach so obvious and so overlooked - why would anyone go to Bournemouth?
She hadn't seen Brian & Charles yet, and I was raving about it and happy to see it again - so we drove into the city here and watched it, and I found it even more moving and we both smelt of the sea and it's being a beautiful day, not one of those ones of making other plans - then we both said goodbye, remembering not to kiss on the lips cos those days are over for now, and back here I made this - Audacity on this very slow old computer often crashes and vanishes or stalls forever and this is the best I could do and I think it's more than good enough for a lover of the lofi and the simple.
