every day i walk around with a clouded head.
half in my life, the other half in my phone.
online, on videos and posts and the content of the internet.
riding my bike, taking the train, doing the dishes, it's like a constant parallel track and train of thought in my life.
always playing and crowding my own life further into the margins.
i have thoughts, yes,
but they become orphaned, unattended.
instead they loop, and loop,
and keep looping in the background.
unaddressed and ever increasing in volume.

i often think about who i am
beneath all this clamoring
and fashioning of myself for the world.
when i see myself online
i think of whether what
i'm seeing is actually me
or me playing me,
a version of me.
and what i am
between all the versions,
beneath the influences
and the references
from the world

do i have any resemblance to that person?
do i look like me?
am i who i'd be?

Kevin Shoemaker is an emerging artist who draws heavily from a background in classical piano and composition. His solitary approach to music making casts him as songwriter, producer, performer, and engineer of his songs. Working from a small writing studio in downtown Brooklyn, Shoemaker is the consummate perfectionist, doing “DIY” with a control freak’s precision.
