Sudanese producer, DJ and sound engineer [kevinindafield] shares their anticipated debut EP 'Golta Shino', out via Jamz Supernova’s Future Bounce label.
Based in South Africa, [kevinindafield], real name Ahmed Abbas, started as an electronic music project to reflect early nostalgic childhood influences through the exploration of different realms of music. Using a plethora of club and rave sounds combined with a foundation in diasporic heritage and Afro-futuristic roots, to bring forward their playful nature and an exciting sound that is set to electrify dancefloors across the world. [kevinindafield] is not one to shy away from bringing an abundance of energy!
[kevinindafield] says about the EP: “Golta Shino (which translates to “Say What” in my native tongue/dialect) weaves elements of jungle, footwork, grime, dubstep and bass music into an energetic, dark and twisted ode to my childhood, sprinkled with samples of old video games and Sudanese TV shows. I created it in the midst of mourning the loss of my family home, which got burnt down due to the ongoing war in Sudan, along with all of our family and childhood memorabilia. And within that, dealing with my family having to flee their home in Sudan and being displaced all over the world. Making music at the time was very healing and helped me grieve that loss, so it felt very therapeutic to make a project that is dedicated to the complicated emotions that came with it and holding on to my voice, identity and where I come from.”
Playing a key role in amplifying the sounds of jungle, footwork and beyond within South Africa, their DJ sets and radio shows shine a limelight on lesser-known artists in the scene. Advocating for lineups and spaces that promote inclusivity (an ethos that carries through all of their work and contributions) through their residency on Oroko Radio and curating musical programmes for local platforms such as The Other Radio. They have been involved in exceptional lineups for events and radio broadcasts, including NTS Radio, Worldwide FM, HKCR, Noods Radio, Search Festival and The Death of Glitter. Coupled with music releases for Juke MX, Body Tools International, Vaporscape Records and Rose Bonica’s imprint, Roses Are Red.
