WARNING = this contains up-front wahwah-ing and phasering - a proper musician would've used this as a first base to hone it till it shone smoothly and beautifully. This degree of blatant wahwah and phaser is a bit like being on a ship in a storm and all the queasyness that spills on to the floor - but like that ship-ride, if you hang on you actually start to go with the motion and even forget it's happening. Even enjoy it.
I do. After all, I am here to do all the things that proper musicians don't do - mostly, yes, it is a disaster and you can see why no one likes me as a musician, though of course in person I am charming and wonderful - and once in a while, along the way, random flailing-about does something lovely, as my exes will attest.
Another WARNING = there are bum notes in this thing which again a proper musician would've scalpelled away without needing any stitches, nor leaving any scar. If you want all that degree of professionalism then you'd probably have to pay for it, but this page is for my own fun and joy and I must admit that when this thing came out of my random flailing-around on the floor this morning I was much more delighted than appalled.
I've learnt a lot from doing this - e.g. a bum note early in the process will haunt you for eternity - and maybe my next one will be even more beautiful - yes I do think this is fairly beautiful - currently a B-, and I could spend the rest of the day working and working and working and making it a safe solid B - but it's easier to plonk it here for you to freely hear and enjoy and treasure, and for me to immediately start from scratch and make another piece like this, but with my new knowledge.
Today I am trapped at home waiting for the gas(wo)man - mercifully British Gas have narrowed-down their estimated arrival-time to anywhere between 8am and 6pm so I only have to waste the whole fucking beautiful sunny day stuck here waiting waiting waiting. But my loss is Art's gain - ten hours is long enough for me to make about 78 albums, so really after today I needn't do anything at all, just enjoy the sunshine and dryness that the BBC have promised us for the rest of the year, because quite honestly making music is feeling like a waste of my life when I should be out there walking and heading for new coastlines without the drudgery of owning a house or a boiler or anything much at all - I suppose I am lucky that I did manage to discover within my lifetime that "nothing" is the best thing, but it is easier said than done and it's really my love of my sofas that is holding me back from experiencing how amazing life could be..
