Yes I took my mother to the garden centre yesterday. We're not close, but I suppose in some ways we are - she is my mother, and I am her only child who has hung around in this neighbourhood long enough for her to notice me. Is that what it was all about ? No idea. But the truth is that she is dying in front of my eyes - when people pass 80 that is what they do. I'm a long way (to me) short of that, and already I'm wondering what it'll be like to be so dependent and I hope I never am but so did she.
