A ‘white spiritual’ song, Father Adieu was first collected from Estil C. Ball by Alan Lomax (assisted by Shirley Collins) c.1941 in Virginia USA. It appears on Lomax’s collection of field recordings, ‘Southern Folk Heritage Series’.
