Absinthe by Justin Ashworth

Absinthe is an experiment in ambient, minimalist, ritual music.
Using serial and generative composition techniques, it aims to take a variety of complex musical ingredients, and distill them into a delicately balanced and nuanced work, that reveals the depth of its flavour over time.

I originally composed Absinthe in 2008, when I was working full-time as a bar tender and had developed a not-so-small obsession with the mystique of the green fairy. I hoped to create a sound piece that was simultaneously, and appropriately intoxicating and mysterious.

The percussion and Rhodes parts in this recording were performed in one hour long take back in 2008. The synthesizer parts were reworked and recorded more recently (April/May 2020), taking advantage of new modular synth gear that could better complete the original vision.

I hope you enjoy getting lost in this.
