Dream Home
They’re looking for their dream home, perhaps a cottage on a hill.
A master bedroom, and a nursery that in time their love would fill.
Just a two up, two down with a climbing rose, and walls all painted white.
They’re looking for their dream home, and it must be just right.
They walked up the hill, knocked on the door, the scent of roses in the air.
A soldier’s bride with tired eyes showed the house, its dreams laid bare.
Wed barely a year when news confirmed her worst fears; once more she was alone.
Another year past, she must move on at last, and find a new dream home.
They said the house was beautiful and would contact the agency.
As they left the master-less bedroom, and the empty nursery.
Neither made a sound, nor did they look round at the walls all painted white.
They’re looking for their dream home and this one was not quite right.
