Veteran music producer seeks to work with artists to create demos, full projects, do remixes and restorations, song completion, and/or provide music industry consultation.
“Singer at Large” and recording artist Johnny J. Blair is looking specifically for acts doing diverse styles of Americana, baroque pop, and psychedelia. Blair's influences include punk/new wave, British Invasion rock, and “old school” soul/gospel, name-checking The Beach Boys to David Bowie. As a producer, his role models include T-Bone Burnett, Tony Mansfield, George Martin, Chris Thomas, and Tony Visconti. Blair combines time-tested organic approaches with the best of technology to get your song and ideas out into the world.
Johnny has issued his own recordings to a global audience, from the New Wave concept album DOOR IN THE WATER to the tango-glam rock Bowie-influenced I LIKE THE STREET. Goldmine Magazine described Blair’s music as “pop music with a conscience” while Spotlight Magazine dubbed him “the Harry Houdini of rock’n’roll” for his ongoing “escape from typecasts.” He also worked with Davy Jones of The Monkees, producing and performing on most of his projects from 1993 (including pre-production on JUSTUS, the 1997 Monkees’s reunion) until Jones’s death in 2012. Blair has also recorded with Chris Andrews (Roger Daltrey, David Essex), The Badlees, John Bechdel (Fear Factory, Ministry), Mike Garson (David Bowie), Prairie Prince (The Tubes, Todd Rundgren), Michael Roe (The 77s), and Chris von Sneidern.
