Lyrics
African Violets
Just something i remembered from a trip down the Old Mine Road
He was someone my Dad knew from many many years ago
He had a dilapidated greenhouse and lived in a tiny wooden shack
In a town that time forgot and a place that always brought you back
He moved kind of slow and didn’t say much to my Dad
Even as a kid I knew there was something about him both heartfelt & sad
He didn’t have much; lived a pretty simple life
He’d just sell a few plants by the roadside for enough to get by
He walked us through his cabin shack to his greenhouse to show us around
I remember every sight and smell but barely a single sound
His entire little world a silent sanctuary
Nothing I’d recognize from my life and my color TV
But he gave us the most beautiful African violet
From his greenhouse to take back home to Mom
And back then I didn’t know a thing about African Violets
But I’ve never since seen a more beautiful one…
