'Cynic' is for the most part, a deliberate poetic reply to a conversation with an ex lover about the nature of love and the future of life and romance as a result of that outlook. There is no cause for cynicism in romance. If cynicism exists, romance cannot exist in the same space. The singer states unequivocally a desire to be taken away from such troubles to a purer place where bitterness is unable to infect love. The line 'I'll never love another the same' highlights every love as different, every love as unique, and nothing can replace or compare to the love at hand. On the deepest level, 'Cynic' is a wish for the rebirth of love into the hearts of bitter people everywhere.
