“Burn away… burn away… pride…”

I began to notice the men around me—
Pride. Ego. Fear to say, “I don’t know.”
That small refusal became their downfall.
The mission had to matter more… than pride.

Verse 1 (Rap, dark violin stabs + heavy bass)
Men around me, pride too loud,
Ego built high, crumbling crowds.
Couldn’t say “I don’t know,” couldn’t confess,
Instructors exposing the ones who regress.

Each challenge harder, peeling the skin,
Self-important, self-deceived, burning within.
Mission over ego—that’s the demand,
Drop the façade, or you won’t stand.

By halfway, fifteen left alive,
Most quit out, others didn’t survive.
Entire class failing? It’s happened before,
Confidence cracked, doubt at the core.

In the fire, I find freedom, nowhere left to hide.
When my self is gone, Your Spirit moves me on,

Exhausted beyond, yet I’m still bound.
Body feels poisoned, fever, no rest,
Hydrate in the Spirit, pray through the test.

Tasks get harsher, terrain turns rough,
Every step saying “I’ve had enough.”
But it’s not me moving—it’s Him inside,
Carrying my soul past where flesh died.

Hallucinations—world watching me,
Ground stepping back, shifting reality.
Blurred and sharpened, senses gone,
Feeling everything, yet nothing’s on.

Mind turns mush, body turns fluid,
Chains break off where His Spirit blew in.
Self disappearing, pride undone,
And in that burning… freedom had come.
