Jez Odyssey by Jeremy Butterworth

The title is inspired by the 'Jazz Odyssey' gag in the satirical band doco 'Spinal Tap'. It is an enduring gag that musos often use when a band member is going off on a musical tangent. A musos 'in joke' perhaps. But in this case everyone is invited in.
The 'Bong Bong Allstars' mindspace and song recording schedule had been filled. I became immersed somewhat obsessively in an unstoppable song creating Odyssey pursuing 4 quite stylistically different songs. Leaning perhaps more to my alt rock roots but influenced by the newly formed Bong Bong sound.
Then having created 4 songs ready to go, with all parts worked out, but no available musical vehicle, serendipitously my engineer/ producer nephew Haydn Martin suggested I work with him in his local studio, and put it together solo. And so Jez Odyssey was born. Members of the band were roped in to contribute but in a less collaborative and more of a 'friendly dictatorship' scenario as I created and recorded all vocals and guitars myself.
Dave Helman did drums on all tracks and Mike Hammond trumpet on 2 tracks. Nigel Anderson created one of the bass grooves for me to work with.

Jeremy Butterworth is a solo artist and principal songwriter and guitarist/vocalist of the highly acclaimed Red Eye Records Alternative rock band The Bhagavad Guitars* and is the vocalist/guitarist of the "Bong Bong Allstars" a funk/blues/rock outfit. He is a seasoned alt/indie rocker who brings a unique mix of energy, musical skill and playfulness to the stage.
