Anguilla Guerrilla by JEGULJA
In 2024 band Jegulja from Ljubljana cooperated with independent record label God Bless This Mess Records and released their third album »Anguilla Guerrilla«. Jegulja (translated Eel) is an unusual trio with two guitarists and a drummer that creates its music somewhere between psychedelic, prog rock, stoner, punk and metal. In between minimalism and virtuosity, raw simplicity and complex arrangements Jegulja swims too unpredictably to be called kitsch.
Jegulja is a Slovenian band formed in Ljubljana in 2013 by ex-members of Carnaval (Jan Kozel), Lene kosti (Rok Večerin »Wuko«) and Uroš (Jure Gašper). Since its inception Jegulja went through seven drummers, the constant being guitarists Jure Gašper and Jan Kozel. In 2014 Jegulja recorded Finesse & Mud demo in original line-up, in 2017 with another drummer Domen Urh Jegulja recorded their first album Darkest Light (chosen as the best Slovenian album of the year by a major news web site in Slovenia), in 2020 second album Exit Sandman with drummer Jure Kolšek and in 2024 their third album Anguilla Guerrilla with Rok »Boogie« Henigman on drums.
Jegulja uses DIY ethics out of necessity but also a bit because Jegulja wants to. In spite of hundreds of concerts and few European tours Jegulja does not set ambitions too high but instead follows the rule that enjoying the music, holding respect for each other and keeping good will alive is still the best a band can hope for.
