I intended this selection of recordings as a Companion / Extra part for the Album release but when i presented it to the label they didn't seem to see any value in it at the time.
Recorded during Charles Hayward's Residency at islington Mill during the recording of the Anonymous Bash LP in summer 2014. Here are recordings of charles busking with a group of musicians who regularly used to play on Piccadilly gardens in Manchester city centre also some extended jams that would just never have made it onto the record as they were just too long . its fragmented but these fragments are all i have and when i listen back i feel it was really worth capturing these moments.
They are all personal recordings made on an i-pad so the quality isn't amazing but these are probably the only recordings outside the original LP that are available , i'm not sure if anyone else was recording this stuff at the time as everything was just happening fast. a lot of material was being produced , mostly that was missed , lost in the memories of people who were there at the time. For me this time was a golden moment after 2016 things changed dramatically but in 2014 somehow everything was blown open and almost anything seemed possible. in a way it still is , its just your outlook changes , your situation shifts .
I hope that people enjoy these recordings "Bootlegs" in a way of some moments we captured and even participated in in manchester and salford in 2014. Released as a CD-r on my sublabel NONO and wrapped in copies of Heironymous Bosch artwork prints from a shed that was full of art materials that i had tried to encourage as a creative store , so people in islington mill could paint and draw easily just by looking inside the shed, finding all the materials they might need. With all the parties happening there the shed just became trashed in the end but i suppose you have to try to do these kinds of ideas just to know what works and what doesn't .
JCDecaux started off as an audio visual project by Michael Holland & Rachel Margetts looking at the usefulness of books and the changing way in which books are used. Our first gig was at the afterhours event at Manchester Central Library in May 2015. Rachel played this gig alone . Rachel is part of the band Fith and also has her own project called yr lovely dead moon .
