Jabal Al-Risan, The Festival of Forbidden Life prend place au pied de la montagne Al-Risan. Ce lieu ancien appartenant au territoire de la Palestine est sous occupation israélienne depuis 1995. Protégés par l'armée d'Israël (violant de ce fait plusieurs lois internationales), de plus en plus de colons étendent leur présence sur cette montagne. La présence des colons se traduit par un climat de violence, de dépossession et de destruction pour la population palestinienne qui vit aux abords de Al-Risan. En 2016, face à ce phénomène, une conteuse palestinienne et une actrice canadienne entreprennent de créer un déambulatoire pour retracer l'histoire de la montagne; elle qui a accueilli plusieurs peuples au courant son existence. Malheureusement, la réponse des colons à cette initiative artistique est violente. Quatre années durant, on refuse que cette création s'avance sur la montagne et on bat la conteuse lorsqu'elle va à la rencontre des colons israéliens dans l'intention de faire avancer le projet. Au courant de l'année 2021, les colons détruisent toutes les installations artistiques construites au pied de la montagne dans le cadre dudit projet (allant même jusqu'à déraciner les arbres près des installations). En réaction à cette violation de propriété, bons nombres d'artistes touchés par le sort de Al-Risan se réunissent pour réfléchir à l'avenir de la liberté artistique sur ce lieu marqué par la violence. De ces nombreuses discussions nait Jabal Al-Risan, The Festival of Forbidden Life: un festival multidisciplinaire qui fait appel à des artistes de partout dans le monde pour dénoncer l'occupation et célébrer la création. À leur manière, les organisatrices et organisateurs du Festival développent une forme pacifique d'occupation pour sensibiliser et rallier le monde à leur cause. Le 30 octobre 2021, le Festival tient son premier événement. Plus de dix heures de programmation sur internet font leur chemin jusqu'en Europe, en Amérique du Nord et au Moyen-Orient. Avec l'intention de poursuivre ses activités, le Festival of Forbidden Life continue ses activités toute l'année auprès de la communauté directement impliquée. Et bien que l'été 2022 devrait accueillir la deuxième édition du Festival son avenir demeure incertain.
«Together» ce veux une ode à la résistance, un salut au courage et un appel à la liberté.
