I was thinking about you last night
I was thinking that if you were by my side
then my life would be as simple as a line
I thought I'd never get to sleep until I awoke
then I went outside and I had a smoke
and I settled myself in to watch the sunrise
I found myself surrounded by living things;
a teaching bird, a brook that could sing
a passing bear slowed up to show me this song
and the good and the bad, the bitter and glad
they came and went through me like waves in the grass
and the sun rose behind clouds of thick schiffon

But as soon as I finish writing this letter
this gloomy weather is going to get better
the rain clouds are all going to go away
it'll be a beautiful day
I'm your minute hand ticking by the minutes
I'm a businessman taking care of business
I'm a washer woman washing your cares away

and I'm killing time
until you're mine
I've got to find a way
to get through the day
I just want to let you know

Every room in my house is a picture frame
and when you aren't here the pictures change
they get out of focus and they get dull
and I turn myself here, I turn myself there
I daydream and pace around everywhere
and I don't eat much but I always feel full
Cause it's the little things that I never noticed before:

a ladybug bumbling through a quiet room
and a melody that travels time
to rhyme the heart with words and find
a voice that sings with joy is always in tune
