Ever After by Jasper Dutz

During the pandemic I started working on my first self-titled project featuring some of my favorite musicians on my original compositions. Sometime during the process, I came across and listened to maestro Jimmy Heath's "Love Letter" and was so moved that I immediately pivoted to focus on a ballads album of my own. Some might say it's atypical for a musician (especially in 2023) to make their self-titled recording debut simply a collection of jazz standards in the ballad format, but to me it's what felt most natural. Pushing boundaries and traversing territory far beyond what's traditional has always been important to me, but It's even more important to be creatively genuine in what I produce and share for the world. I usually avoid "explaining" music with words like this because it really should just speak for itself, but I wouldn't be fully comfortable releasing my originals unless I first shared the music that has shaped me most.
