No abbreviations follow my name
No certifications grace my walls
Still, I’m referred to as “mister”, folks call me “sir”
From ne day to the next this began to occur
Without any warning at all
But I was one of the gang I was one of the boys
Reading my comic books, playing with my toys
Then I got the job and the car and the wife and the kids
Oh, now that I of it, that’s what I did
I went farther along

Well, maybe I’m not at the home stretch yet but the end
Of this marathon race everybody is in, is getting closer all the time
I’ve passed a few of my sisters and brothers
But I wasn’t as fast as a couple of others
Still, we all gotta meet on the finish line
And I’ve been one of the gang, I was one of the boys
I raised a ruckus, I made some noise
Now I’m running this race just a step at a time
Gotta keep up this pace rill I get to that line
A little bit farther along

A little bit farther along just an inch at a time
At least it could be an inch, might be a mile till I get to that line
