Datenautobahn by Jakob Rehlinger

Begun just after completing my previous album, Powehi, and finished while in the initial period of the Coronavirus quarantine. I attempted to not let the situation unduly influence the music or titles. The working title for "Krankheit" had been "Contagion" for months before the outbreak, but that felt too on the nose so was altered to the German for "illness", dovetailing with the title of the title track "Datenautobahn" (information superhighway). If the album has a theme it would be retro-futurism, which I find endlessly fascinating in all its prophetic and misconceived dreams.

Jakob Rehlinger works in many genres. This account spotlights his music as a composer / improviser working in the nexus of ambient, jazz, kosmische electronics, electro-acoustic, new age, and more recently, orchestral works.
