old man stood stonefaced on 33rd & death/draws a harp to chapped lips buzzin' single low notes/same crumpled hand wiped drippings from his nose/yes he'd seen better days/his droopy red-weathered eyes watered as they stared down at his swapmeet shoes/oh lord it's leroy's lament/burned all his money now he can't pay no rent/clears his throat with a smoky death rattle fore bellowin' "lord i'm goin' away tonight"/reached for his flask for a quick long sip/that damned harmonica did slid from his grip/fell to the concrete and in two she split/brought his hands to his face with a single sob/oh lord it's leroy's lament/his woman done left him and his money's all spent/but don't poke no fun cause this could be you/caught dead in a rainstorm gurglin' the blues/but he didn't hear no thunder
