Ngoni Kora by Issiaka Dembele
Here I present you Ngonikora: The Ngoni and the Kora are instruments of the same family but they have a different sound.
This album was recorded at my home studio during the covid pandemic as we all were confined to stay home. Ngonikora is a creation of the solitude I experienced during that period. I frequently played ngoni and kora to make myself feel better. As a musician, I could not do other things but I didn't want to waste any time. The recordings are the result of this practice.
Ngonikora is an instrumental album. I don't sing but I make the instruments sing. For me the sounds I play are languages and tell messages. This makes me a griot who is at the same time traditional and modern.
Griots are sent to this earth with the principal task to reconcile the community to bring peace and joy. I try to continue to do the work of my grandparents. I hope a pandemic never recurs in the world. I also wish that there will be a solution to the difficult economic situation so that everyone can be happy and live in joy.
I have plenty of surprises for the future, and I invite you to follow me.
