Hailstorm by In These Trees

After (literally) getting caught in a hailstorm while walking with friends in the woods, astonished at how large the
hail was, Binnie came home and began exploring in lyrics the way love can become a rumination, an obsession, and
sometimes…kind of….silly.. Everything and every feeling reminds one of the beloved – music, light and shadow,
ordinary events, expressions of nature. Is it a joy or a curse?
Personnel on this release was phenomenal! Jen Kreisberg, former member of the Native American group “Ulali,” was brought in to do some back-up vocals. She happens to be living in Connecticut, not super-far from where Binnie lives,, and they met up at Sun Studios in Manchester, where Jen worked her magic on several songs. That woman wails! Like the cry of the battered earth! For some funky percussion, world-renowned percussionist Jerry Marotta recorded a variety of instruments in his studio in Woodstock, NY. Marotta has worked extensively with Peter Gabriel and Tony Levin. He has also performed on albums by Ani DiFranco, Sarah McLachlan, Marshall Crenshaw, The Dream Academy,  Suzanne Vega, Carlene Carter, John Mayer, Iggy Pop, Tears for Fears, Elvis Costello, Cher, Paul McCartney, Carly Simon, Lawrence Gowan, Ron Sexsmith, etc. Bassist Ben Zwerin tours internationally and has music in his DNA -- He was introduced to music at an early age by his father, Mike Zwerin, a famous trombonist and writer for the “International Herald Tribune” who played with Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy and Maynard Fergusson. Jeff Pevar is a virtuoso musician and producer who has played with Ray Charles, David Crosby, James Taylor, Phil Lesh, Jefferson Starship….the list goes on! He’s worked on several songs for In These Trees and Tartie, and brings an astonishing creativity to each one. Once again, forever thanks to producer and keyboardist David Baron, who has vision, genius and kindness.

In These Trees is an alternative indie music project led by Binnie Klein. Klein's lyrical stories are suffused with human longing and memory, and pair gracefully with soulful melodies from the artists who perform her work. With her extensive background in music as a radio DJ and a career in writing, Klein seeks to elevate her words through collaboration with rising artists.
