“flightbox” is the start of a new album series from Infloresce Records, where five composers are asked to write a piece of music based on one word. The word for this album was “flight”.
From magnificent flocks of birds to satellites orbiting the earth, we hope you enjoy the tunes in this gift box.

THE COMPOSERS
1. Michaela Nachtigall is a session violinist, arranger, and composer from California, now living in Minnesota. She specializes in creating luscious soundscapes with her strings. With her last name meaning ‘Nightingale’ in German, she has always felt a particular kinship towards small songbirds. One of her goals this upcoming winter is to befriend the local black-capped chickadees with homemade suet.

2. Tancla is a composer, pianist, and little dog from Spain who makes music for games and media. He used to dislike bread as a kid, so he hid it in a drawer, causing an ant infestation that got him grounded for a week.

3. starling is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who makes and records music for games and media. she was raised on the oboe (riverside reeds and wood), but of late has been pivoting to the erhu (horsehair and snakeskin) — as such, nature continues to inspire her work.

4. paper aviator (aka Kris Zaballero) is a Filipino-American composer and pianist who enjoys blending soft acoustic timbres with playful electronic sounds. She likes looking and taking pictures of birds. Her favorite is the roseate spoonbill!

5. Miles (they/them) is a Minneapolis-based media composer, musician, and teacher, as well as the co-runner of Infloresce Records. They describe the current era of their personal music as a fusion of emo, prog, and showtune, and they are embracing how silly and disorienting the resulting sound is.
