“Complex Control presents the first official introduction to the recordings of two veteran sonic explorers. Hermetically embedded in the electronic data stream for over a decade, this aptly-titled split-release displays the studied-finesse of two of Southern California’s unsung heroes.
On “Side D*P*A*O*”, D*P*A*O* takes us on a retro-futurist journey through an interwoven tapestry of advanced MIDI mapping, live programming, and the symbiosis of digital and analog synthesis. All this gives way to female R&B vocal riffs, a pleasant and surprising end, marking the distance we’ve traveled in listening.
On “Side DeanLemm”, DeanLemm constructs an all-embracing sound, at once both Fourth World and Post-Techno. Touching on aspects of world music, drone and contemporary dance production, the intricate poly-rhythms and dense Synth textures merge into a whole greater than the sum of its parts.
The 30-minute release is a welcome addition to the world of electronic music, a fresh and unique take on current forms of the medium from two artists clearly marked with individuality and spirit.”
