Lesser by Immorpher
“Lesser” is my sonic embodiment of aging and slowly marching towards death. That is the endless decay, unease, and pain that makes the body lesser. This soundscape is of hums, electronic wails, and machinery. Perhaps this is what the brain hears in the final moments of life support as the neurons misfire and die. What world does the mind perceive in such a state? Maria Kinnun created the album cover to visually represent such a reality.
Aubrey Hodges' Quake 2 soundtrack for the Nintendo 64 contained disorienting and oppressive sounds; "Lesser" has a lot of this spirit. It has ill feelings which come from the adult figures in my life passing away. When I spoke with Aubrey Hodges, I mentioned to him that we can put these ill feelings into music. This is a way of expressing these feelings and giving them a space away from other parts of our mind. Perhaps some of these soundscapes can help you work through ill feelings, as it has done for me, where they can be put to rest in the noise.
