Queda Pendiente by Los Sara Fontan

Los Sara Fontan have recorded their first album in 5 years. After proving for a long time that the conventions of the music business are not unavoidable and that you can always find a way to get lost, they have finally captured a snapshot of their work on a disc.

Or rather, they indulged in a process that led to the beginning and end coinciding. On the one hand, it was about capturing something that didn't need a fixed form over the years and was always visualised in the moment, as a melody, as a bassline, as an atmosphere, and on the other hand, it was about completing something in order to be able to forget and get an idea of something new.

No wonder it is permeated by an unconscious urge to move, which inevitably takes hold of the listener, like a musical landslide. Walking, wandering, running, moving to a pulse, no-one is left behind when Edu's drumming sound pushes forward hyperactively, gently carried by Sara's violin.

We feel very honoured to join Sara and Edi on this tour de force that transcends the folk genre by so much. Without a doubt, it is a special piece of music history written with the will to experiment. It was not easy for us to do it justice. We let ourselves in, endeavoured to keep pace and to be close to the essence in concept and design: Quede Pendiente. The future? - Still pending. An end? - Not yet in sight! We are still on the trail of the eternal, but at the moment we are still at the mercy of failing progress.

‘Queda Pendiente’, the title of the album, has a double meaning in Spanish:
On the one hand, ‘still pending’, like something that is unfinished, has not yet come to an end. The moment of improvisation rests here, interwoven with the dilemma of creation, which strives towards infinity. On the other hand, the saying goes that ‘the next abyss is not far away’ and if we look around us, we see out of metre-deep cellars, shafts and tunnels as if through a telescope, watching as the next human depth of fall is plumbed. And bottomlessness reigns supreme. We expect the end of the world at any time, but as in the Book of Revelation, it says that people will seek death but will not find it. We are damned, permanently at the mercy of catastrophe and long for the end of the world for the sake of our satisfaction. Until we break the cycle. Can we?

The message in a bottle and time capsule, which we are throwing out for future listeners, tells of these last things.
In an instrumental way, on one side, and in a spoken way on the other, new cassette side, which was added just for this edition. We are seeking to get closer to the concept of ‘Queda Pendiente’.
13 voices make this tape edition special, because the B-side is a polyphonic collage that lets people have their say. People that Sara and Edu love and admire, but also with whom they shared their musical path with! People that they like to learn from and listen to. So listen and follow their thoughts on the end of the world, the last day on earth, the apocalypse, the collapse of time,
the approaching transcendence of death. And feel something very human, compassion, sympathy, a spark of hope that such beings are not capable of the ultimate devastation after all.

These people look into the abyss, find themselves trapped in it, pay homage to the very last day, look back and surrender themselves to the space of the inevitable. The last day before the end of the world is dawning. Before you indulge in the intoxication of your last trip, you look back....and raise a final toast…. We want to save these wishes, curses and longings, beyond the abyss, as an angelic spark of the idea that what comes after can change what came before; that somehow, after all
what has failed – can still be saved.
