Returning from Volodarka from Bohdan’s funeral. Levin tells us about his tattoos (he was Bohdan’s only tattoo artist): a replica of Maria Prymachenko, a trident. Says Bohdan squealed unforgettably during sessions; we agree that tattoos are painful, and squealing is correct. Bohdan always arrived for sessions with a girlfriend, brother, brought friends — like to a celebration. August 2023
In February 2024 Levin joined the UAF.
42. Tokha’s funeral. 88 (00:04-37:47)
Priest conducts Tokha’s memorial service. Stands in the same place where Kostya’s commander spoke two months ago. Very hot, a girl faints in the crowd. Tokha’s comrades sit her down nearby, and an ambulance arrives. The priest sings for a very long time. After the memorial service, we go to bury Tokha. As Vova and I are here for the second time this summer, we count how many rows have been added from Kostya to Tokha: 11 rows of 8 graves each. 88 graves. August 2023

47. Funeral walk (34:52-37:39)
Fragment of the walk at Bohdan’s funeral — the cemetery in Volodarka is a few kilometers from the central square, where the whole city came to say goodbye to Bohdan. From the square, we walk very slowly in a huge procession, down one long street. Everyone who lives or works here has come out and is kneeling on the roadside; it looks and seems endless. Bohdan’s mother's friend gets up and runs to her, they cry and hug. We walk for about 40 minutes, maybe an hour — an eternity. August 2023

51. Kitchen garden of memory (42:17-43:38)
Zhanna, Katya, and the kids are walking on Volodymyrska Hill. I joined them, and we sit near the fountain. Katya reminisces about various things from her life; heard here is a fragment of her thoughts about Berdiansk, memory, about “the garden Hena planted for Platon.” Hena very much wanted to return.
