Do you ever just want to call someone? Like for example your old buddies from the dubstep forum you called your friends in 2008, but you never met in real life?
You got into a big fight over the bro-stepification of the sound, and you lost not just your spirit but also your friends that went deeper into the doomed direction the genre was going. While you found assurance and peace in a post-dubstep world, that made the club-specific production finally listenable on your iPod classic headphones.
I know it's hard out here and dubstep has not been the same. Sometimes somewhere at a festival for a moment you may think it's back and everything can be as you remember it.
Yet, it's also ok that it's not. Maybe it's time to move forward and let things of the early 2000s be what they were.
Beatrice M. can’t bring you back your youth. They were probably even too young to use a computer back then. But for some reason this is what their new 2 Track Single “Call / Response” brings us back to. Reminiscing about the roots of an omnipresent genre while emerging with their own production style. Familiar sounds spin perfectly placed over a punchy kick drum. Simple, pure and genius. It’s a new direction for them, twisting their technoid and dub oriented influences, yet also an educated ode to the many productions that defined the sound of Beatrice.
“Call / Response” is a bass heavy love affair, calling on all the right highs and lows for the heads. Go buy it!
