Sunflower Seeds by Hot Coppers

Hello.
You don’t know me cos this is my debut record innit. I could write something abstract in the third person but that wouldn’t feel quite right.
I’m music producer Gareth Parton - perhaps somewhat better known for my work with legends such as Breeders, The Go! Team, Foals, The Beta Band and a bunch of other indie stuff.
After a stupidly long hiatus from doing my own thing, I’ve returned to writing and recording my own music again and smashed out this thing I named ‘Hot Coppers’...call it a vanity project, or a mid-life crisis or whatever but it’s been mighty fun. And it turned out rather nice.

Written and recorded during 2020 in the shadow of bizarreness and tragedy with lyrical subject matter tiptoeing between humour and misery, the result is this lovely collection of indiepop.

This debut single, ‘Sunflower Seeds’ attempts to capture the excitement and unknown of a new relationship...will it grow into something special...or die cos you’re shit at ‘gardening’?

The live six-piece band features Melbourne indie superheroes from bands such as The Lucksmiths, Architecture in Helsinki, Clan Analogue and Mid-State Orange and they play the single launch at Thornbury’s Cactus Room on Saturday May 8th.

Forthcoming self-titled album ‘Hot Coppers’ is released on Lost and Lonesome Recordings, mid 2021.
