The callow marigold
The spiderweb, too thin to hold
The lilac climbing up the fence

The headlight's jagged crawl
The subtle landscape of a phone call
Feeling familiar muscles tense in fragments

Two days shy of the flower moon
I avoided you all afternoon

The lightning’s rapid break
The way she screams her silver ache,
Yet somehow leaves the sky untorn

The dirt that coats the fruit
The untied lace upon the boot
The way a haunt can leave you mute, uprooted, drunk, and worn

Hummingbird you’ve got gall but not the wherewithal to see me through
With little effort you debase my fortitude sinew by sinew
