“Opia“ sees Honingbeer’s musical colors shine, it’s a fully realized vision informed by her background in classical music and her never-ending curiosity about state of the art production. The result is big, dramatic and bold. It’s filled with emotional warmth and sincerity. It’s pure and constantly surprising in the best possible way. It’s Neo-Classic. But it isn’t, really. Her debut EP for Bigamo was written during the pandemic while she was living alone - and partly didn’t have a home, actually. Opia, by definition, is a defect in vision. In terms of Honingbeer’s music, it refers to a rather different kind of self-reflection, as she wasn’t shying away from challenging her mirror image to take her to the deepest discomfort hidden in her subconsciousness. The effect of this journey was a cathartic one, as it made her reach a new found musical autonomy while she learned to understand solitude as something that makes her feel safe and sound.

Sometimes, in order to decide if something’s good or bad for you, you have no other choice than placing yourself right in the midst of it. Honingbeer did exactly that while writing this material. And luckily, she isn’t sparing us the details.

Honingbeer gifts us never just a vibe or melody to match a mood. Much more, her compositions require listeners to submerge – and reemerge elsewhere. With atmospheric, melancholy layerings, she lures listeners into a primordial place and time; a clearing in the forest singing, a vibration of the heart.
